In John McEnroe's autobiography "Serious"- he misremembers his first Grand Slam trophy somewhat... He writes: 'Our roughest match was a three-setter in the semis against Tomas Koch of Brazil and Cynthia Durner of Australia', which is incorrect on a number of points: the match was a second round match, not a semi, he spells the names of both his opponents incorrectly and it was a straight set win anyway!!!

Again, in the book no seeds are listed or numbered in the draw of any of the doubles events but the essay on the tournament does make reference regarding the Women's Doubles to the fact that 'None of the seeded pairs reached the semi-finals', and at the top of the draw sits the names of Boshoff/Kloss, the reigning US Open champions. Looking at the Mixed draw it's likely that the top and bottom of the draw had seeded pairs and maybe some more somewhere in the middle!
